First, do this:
- Call your stylist, we are here to help, it’s literally our job to recommend the right maintenance schedule and product regimen for your hair needs.
- Book a haircut, just do it. If your ends are damaged, they need to go. Yes, even if you’re growing it out, it needs at least a trim.
We bake cookies at 375 degrees, think about your hair! Turn that flat iron down!
Ok, lets touch on what may be causing this issue.
- Air quality. With the heat constantly running, we are experiencing low humidity levels. This means low moisture in our air, creating dry skin, scratchy noses, and dry hair.
- Washing your hair everyday. If you already go a couple days between washes- go you! If washing daily is a habit you’re not ready to break than there are other options, but you may want to reconsider it.
- Heat damage. When you use heat on your hair, you could be doing major damage and not even know it.
- Chemical damage. Maybe that box color was a terrible impulse decision for more reasons than turning your hair orange.
- Hormones. Yea girl, that could be it. If your balance is out of whack it can cause all sorts of issues, parched hair being one of them.
What you can do to fix dry hair
- Invest in a humidifier if you have not. They even make one small enough to fit in the cup holder of your car! It even has the ability to diffuse essential oils. I have one, and it’s pretty awesome.
- Skip a wash, or two, or three!? Don’t be a grease-ball, but if your issue is flat hair on day 2, grab some dry shampoo and boost that volume up. Dry shampoo is a game changer, ask your stylist about it.
- Invest in your styling products, heat protection is absolutely necessary to protect your hair. Think of this as a “base coat” protecting your strands from damage.
- In moments of mental weakness- DO NOT pick that box color up from CVS and think your hair is going to look like Gwen Stefanis. It won’t.
- If your problem is severe, and you’re experiencing other abnormal symptoms, then you should contact your doctor and see what’s really going on.
Hair products for dry hair
Talk to your stylist about what products are right for you. What will improve your friends hair, may deplete yours of moisture. Serums and oils are not for everybody.
You are basically gambling when you are in the shampoo aisle at the grocery store. While it’s possible you might end up with something you love, you may end up with old, diverted products that carry no guarantee.
Shampoo is important for maintaining integrity while preserving hair color.
Conditioner is vital too, many stylists offer in-salon deep conditioning treatments that are a great fix for dry hair, packing a major moisture punch.
There are at home treatments with mayonnaise or honey, olive oil and avocado. Try these if you have the extra time and cleaning supplies on hand.
A shower cap is a great budget-friendly investment for no-wash days. Keep your hair dry and frizz free by protecting it while in the shower.
We all experience bad hair days- rock a bun, wear a hat, or cancel all plans and binge-watch The Office.
